| "After I had my son in 1982, I wanted to lose the 50 pounds I gained during pregnancy. I consumed at least three cans of Canfield's diet chocolate soda sweetened with aspartame each day. My menstrual periods, which had always been regular as clockwork, started coming closer and closer to three weeks apart and I was bleeding clots. It was extremely painful.
I went to my gynecologist who could find nothing wrong with me. This had been going on for about six months when I saw an article in a newspaper regarding medical effects of aspartame. It included menstrual irregularities and brain damage!
Of course, I immediately stopped using the soda and my periods were back to normal within two months. At the time, nobody, including my gynecologist, believed it was the aspartame. Glad the word has gotten out!"
